How to Fix DLL Files

Dynamic link errors or DLL errors arise as a result of corruption of the basic DLL file wherein DLL is a library containing code and data that can be shared by more than one program at a given time. Since such files act as common resources for various running programs, these play a crucial role for speeding up system performance.

Such errors can be caused by faulty registry entries of virus, malware attacks, or by their accidental removal while uninstalling some program. It’s necessary to take preventive action against such errors because these files are fundamental to the running of applications and various programs. Here are some ways to fix DLL errors.

1.) Re-install

Sometimes the DLL errors are program specific. That is when the system shows an error every time you try to open a specific program or application. In this case follow the uninstall- reinstall procedure i.e. re run the installation procedure for that application.

2.) Registry cleaner

Corrupt registry entries are a major reason behind such errors. Employ a suitable registry cleaner that automatically scans and fixes incorrect registry entries.

3.) System restore utility

This utility is a life saviour, when it comes to removing DLL errors and resuming normal system functioning. Prior to running a system restore, make sure that the restoration date is set prior to the date on which the errors were reported. This procedure might not be possible if Windows is not running properly. In that case run the Windows in safe mode and then restore the system.

Such errors if not fixed in time, could lead to further problems and complete system crashes. A DLL error, as discussed above, is a problem with a shared file that can escalate. We recommend that you take the time to fix DLL problems early on. The best technique is with third party software or just re-install the DLL/Application.

DLL Error

DLL Error
Caused by a missing or corrupt DLL file due to the following:

* Another program was uninstalled that removed a .dll file that was required by another program or the operating system.
* A program was installed that overwrote the .dll file with either an older version or a version that is incompatible with other programs causing .dll errors.
* A bad installation of a program corrupted one or more files causing the .dll errors.
* Another user or program maliciously or mistakenly deleted the .dll file or an associated file.
* A hardware issue exists with the computer, such as a bad hard disk drive, causing the data on the drive to become corrupt, casing the .dll errors.

Rundll32.exe

Rundll32.exe

Dynamic-link library (also written without the hyphen), or DLL, is Microsoft's implementation of the shared library concept in the Microsoft Windows and OS/2 operating systems. These libraries usually have the file extension DLL, OCX (for libraries containing ActiveX controls), or DRV (for legacy system drivers).

The file formats for DLLs are the same as for Windows EXE files — that is, Portable Executable (PE) for 32-bit Windows, and New Executable (NE) for 16-bit Windows. As with EXEs, DLLs can contain code, data, and resources, in any combination.

In the broader sense of the term, any data file with the same file format can be called a resource DLL. Examples of such DLLs include icon libraries, sometimes having the extension ICL, and font files, having the extensions FON and FOT.

The rundll32.exe is a process which executes DLL's and places their libraries into the memory, so they can be used more efficiently by applications. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

rundll32.exe is also a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

The rundll32.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. In other cases, rundll32.exe is most likely some type of malware: spyware, adware, virus or a worm!

Milind dhoke featuring ANNA HAZARE

Gaurav Dubey In Memories of FRIENDS.
